How to keep your cat entertained while you're at work?

For many cat lovers, leaving the house for work can be tough, especially when you see your kitty waiting patiently or trying to get your attention. Cats can get bored or anxious if they’re left alone all day. Luckily, there are several ways to keep your furry friend happy, active, and stimulated while you're away. With a bit of planning and smart solutions, you can ensure your cat won’t be bored when you’re not home!

1. Invest in a good cat tree or scratching post

A sturdy, multifunctional cat tree offers plenty of opportunities for climbing, scratching, playing, and relaxing. Place it somewhere your cat can easily access and where they can observe their surroundings. Add some toys or hanging treats for extra fun. It will keep your cat occupied for hours and help satisfy their natural instincts.

2. Use interactive toys and puzzle feeders

Make use of puzzle toys, laser pointers, or treat-dispensing toys that challenge your cat mentally. Hiding treats or food in a puzzle feeder encourages problem-solving behavior and keeps them busy. This not only entertains your cat but also prevents boredom and destructive behaviour.

3. Create multiple comfy spots and hideaways

Make sure your cat has several cozy places to relax and retreat to. Think soft beds, plush blankets, or hidden spots in the house. Cats love having a safe haven where they can unwind and feel secure, especially if they want some alone time.

4. Arrange for someone to check in

If possible, have a friend, neighbor, or family member stop by to feed, play with, or cuddle your cat. Even a quick visit can make a huge difference. Alternatively, automatic feeders or interactive cameras with treat dispensers can help engage your cat and give her some mental stimulation during the day.

5. Do a play session before you leave

Spend some quality time playing with your cat right before you head out. Use a wand toy, laser pointer, or mouse toy to burn off excess energy. After a good play session, she’ll likely be more relaxed and less prone to boredom or destructive behavior.

6. Provide new toys and mental stimulation

Keep your cat’s environment fresh by rotating toys and introducing new ones regularly. Scatter toys around your home or hide them in different spots so she’s constantly discovering something new.

In short, investing in a good cat tree, interactive toys, and providing comfy hiding spots can prevent boredom and keep your cat happy, active, and healthy—even when you’re away. A content, stimulated cat is a happy cat, and that makes everyone’s day better!
